July Favourites

28/7/2014

Hi everyone!

Its that time of month when I tell you what I've been loving! Where has the past month gone? It seems like I just literally wrote my first favourites post. Most of this month I have been loving a variety of different things in each category, but I wanted to narrow them down to just one! So whats changed for this month then?

Music

Picture
This month I have LOVED listening to a new and Australian artist known as Betty Who. I first heard about her by YouTuber, Tyler Oakley. But I began to listen to her music when an advert on Spotify came up advertising one of her songs "Heartbreak Dream." It is a upbeat song so as soon as the advert was over, I wanted to listen to more! Personally, my favourite song of hers is "High Society" which you will be able to listen to below! All her songs on her recently released EP are really good, so that's why she has made my track of the month!

Book

Picture
Before finishing school, I decided to make a promise to myself that I would start reading a lot more after my exams were out of the way. I never thought I would stick to it, but I had been finishing books within a week depending on how good it was!

After finishing all of John Green books, I felt empty without having nothing to read so I did some research on Waterstones to see what I would enjoy just as much as I enjoyed John Green books. I chose a book called "Everyday" by David Levithan and it has been my favourite book so far! It is written really well and the story behind it is really beautiful and clever! I was glued to this book once I got into it! It's one of those books that you think about when you're out and wonder what will happen to the character in the next chapter (that rarely happens for me!) Its a great read so I definitely knew it had to be apart of this months favourites!

YouTuber

Picture
Recently, I subscribed to a YouTuber known as Mr Ben Brown. He does daily vlogs which is my favourite type of videos to watch on YouTube! But recently he had uploaded a video called Visual Vibes and thats the video that drew me in. It was filmed beautifully and it really captures summer really well! I'm surprised that he's only just hit 200,000 subscribers I really thought he would have more! If you'd like to check his channel out just click the picture!

Cosmetic

Now that the weather is getting hotter in Britain, I really cannot be doing with caking on heavy foundation day after day! But I don't dare to leave my face bear without any makeup! My struggle was that I wanted a natural face but the coverage on horrible breakouts were hidden fairly well. I picked up this Rimmel London BB cream and it is amazing! It spreads on my face really well and blends out super easily. The coverage it gives me is great, exactly what I wanted and it doesn't feel at all heavy when wearing it! Also, it has SPF 15 in it, so I don't need to smother my face in suncream before using it as theres enough protection to stop my fair skin face burn!

Hair product

Picture
So if you're a constant reader for my site, you will know that I was at a cheer competition a few weeks back. Our hairstyle for the competition is half up half down and curls (something my hair never seems to hold into place very well!) Even if I have hairspray surrounding my locks, they will most likely fall out in about 1 hour. I invested in a gel spray to see if that would make any difference. And it did! The spray smells sooo good and it works better than hairspray alone and my curls lasted for a lot longer than expected. I definitely recommend a gel spray if you want your hairstyle to stay locked in for most of the day!

And thats another month out of the way! It's crazy theres only 4 months left of the year soon and that just seems mad! I hope you have had a great July and an even better August and I also hope you've enjoyed reading what I've been loving! Let me know in the comments what your favourite thing in July has been!

See you in the next blog post,

Grace x

Update, update, update!

Hi everyone!

For this weeks blog post it will just be an update for you all to know what will be happening for the next few weeks. I thought this would be useful to take up a blog post for so that if you wonder what may be going on you will just have to find this post to get all your answers!

So, for a few months I have began to feel like I want to do something exciting this summer since it is going to be the longest summer break I'll have for a while! I have been given then opportunity to visit my family… in Canada!

Its going to be a massive milestone in my life because I will be flying over by myself and thats something I've never experienced before. I have visited Ghana without my family but then it was different, I had about 10 different people including teachers who went across as well! I'm super excited to see Canada and especially see my family!

Now because of this, I can't promise to you lovely readers that blog posts will be up on the regular schedule of Mondays and Friday, since I will be doing something different everyday! If this is the case, I can assure you that you will receive a large blog post about my trip to make up for it! So I apologise in advance if I miss blog posts during the time I'm away!

However, I am working hard to ensure that I have content for beauty at least if I am able to publish a post on the right time, my drafts are full of beauty posts for you all to try!

Anyways, that was just a quick update for you all, you will expect a July favourites for next weeks blog post which did take me a while because I had no idea what to choose (which also means I probably brought too much in the past month!)

See you in the next blog post,

Future Cheer (FC by the beach 2014)

Hi everyone!

Well, what a busy weekend! As you can probably tell from the title I have returned from a cheerleading competition held in Bournemouth. I am so so so tired but feel a great buzz from the whole entire weekend that I was in Bournemouth for!

My cheer squad:

For the past 10 months, I've been part of a cheer squad for the rugby team Saracens. The squad that I'm a part of is called Saracens Stardust. We're a small squad, usually around 17 of us altogether (except for this competition there were only 13 of us altogether!) We may be small, but I do believe that can perform just as well as larger teams in our level. I must tell you it took a lot of convincing from my friends who were already part of Stardust to get me to join!

I joined back in September last year and on my first session I felt extremely welcome by all the girls in Stardust and both of the coaches! When I joined, I had very limited skills (all i could manage was a forward roll) but I was challenged and got placed into something which I had never done before which is basing a stunt. But I felt like I got to grips with this position quite easily and I have loved every minute of basing (even if it is hard work sometimes!) Ever since joining the squad, I feel like I've come out of my shell more and have gained more confidence within myself! I look forward to my Thursdays each week because that means seeing everyone at cheer!

Future cheer competition:

In the space of one year, Saracens Stardust attend 2 competitions held by Future Cheer. When I joined in September, the upcoming competition was called Winter Wonderland. It was my first competition, so yes I was nervous but it wasn't as large as the Bournemouth competition.

When arriving at the BIC, thats when the nerves began to kick in, big time! Even though I had already been to a Future Cheer competition, I was just as nervous. The stage was larger and the crowd was MUCH bigger. Our routine was much tougher this year and when practising beforehand not everything went to plan. This is when we all began to panic and I tried my best to not put negative thoughts into my mind! Nonetheless, we performed to the best of our ability and I felt SO good after performing, its all we could ask for! We didn't win our level but I enjoyed my day with all the Stardust squad and watching all the other cheerleaders from the higher level and of course visiting the beach.

It's going to weird not going once a week to cheer over the summer holidays, but I will look forward to September when we can all go back and work on another great routine!
Sorry this post was a bit short, but I will see you all in the next beauty post on Friday!

Prom!

7/7/2014

Hi everyone!

This post is a bit late (as my prom was nearly 2 weeks ago!) but I really wanted to post my June Favourites at the last Monday of June! Anyways, I'd love to show you all some pictures and my view of the night!
I never really was super excited for prom when beginning my final year of my high school and it wasn't until the last 3 weeks before prom when I finally started getting things sorted, such as hair, makeup, jewellery etc.

Dress

Picture
My heart was set on a purple dress as it is my favourite colour and I fell in love with hundreds of different styles for the purple dresses. But when I went shopping back in February, I instantly fell in love with this high neck navy dress from Quiz. I didn't want to spend a fortune on a dress and seeing this dress was perfect for style and price!

Hair

Picture
As my dress was high neck, I definitely wanted an updo as it would really show off the jewels around my neck! I looked at some images on the internet and a side bun was a must! But when we trialled it I felt like it needed something else, so I had a braid put down the back of my head then put into the bun. As you can see some curls were coming out the bun and you can really see the blonde that I had put into my hair (which I loved!)

Makeup

Picture
I was going to go for a basic brown eye makeup look, but I thought I should do something with a bit of colour! I used a navy & silver eyeshadow (with a LOT of blending.) I didn't think I could pull it off and people were surprised that I done it myself (so was I!) And I even attempted to wear false eyelashes but they didn't work out too well as they kept falling off!

Transport

Picture
Me and my friends turned up in an old fashioned Buick and a family friend drove it down for us! We went around the town and SO many people saw us it was really weird getting all this attention because I was really not used to it! However, we all felt like celebrities when we got to the school!

3/4 of my group, will miss these lovely people!
Its crazy to think now that chapter in my life is all over! It seems like yesterday that I was shopping for my prom dress and not really caring about the whole thing because I was more worried about my exams! I'm sad now that I won't see these people day in day out and I won't be returning to school. I'd like to wish all of the people who were in my year the best of luck for their futures whether you're staying on, going to a different sixth form or going on a college course/apprenticeship. I'm sure you will all work hard and get to the places you want. Here's to the next BIG chapter of our lives!

See you in the next blog post,

Grace x
