September favourites

29/9/2014

Hi everyone!

I feel like September has been a really slow month, which is good because I've had more time to think of my favourites for this month!
Lets go!

Music

Picture
This month has to go to the wonderful Shawn Mendes. I have been listening to his EP on repeat every day at least once this month! I love love love all the songs and they all seem to suit my situations at the moment (don't you love it when songs do that?!) If you like acoustic songs, you will love this album! But my favourite song? It has to be One Of Those Nights (link below!)

Book

Picture
I haven't had enough time to read as much as I'd like to recently, but the one book that I finished at the beginning of the month is If I Stay. I brought it because of the film coming out in cinemas and yes it is very sad! Not as sad as TFIOS, but quite close. It made me realise how quickly everything could be taken from us in a flash. Still haven't seen the movie yet, but I think the book will probably be better!

Youtuber

Picture
I have been loving watching everyday vlogs a lot more lately and when I heard Jim Chapman was starting a brand new everyday vlog channel, not going to lie, I got pretty excited. I love Jim's videos normally but having him everyday is even better (I love his presence with a camera!) Go check his new channel out (link is on the picture as per usual!) I'm sure you will love him in the first 30 seconds, so go check him out!

Cosmetic

Picture
The cosmetic I have been loving this month is, once again, another mascara. And it was a freebie! Its by Seventeen and they had an offer in Boots (something like buy two products and get this mascara free) and this is the little beauty that came along with the deal! I loved the packaging and the mascara itself has done wonders for my lashes. For some reason my lashes react better with Seventeen's mascaras and this by far is my favourite! It adds so much volume and my lashes don't stick/clump together after use.

Hair Product

Picture
I know I done a DIY salt spray and I live by that salt spray, but this salt spray by Schwarzkopf (say that 10 times in a row) is amazing! I've loved the waves its produced and it smells amazing. I put it in my hair when its damp and the results the next day are great. If you're not up to making a salt spray this gives the same results!

October next?! Really? This month has really dragged (thankfully!) Hope you'v e enjoyed reading my favourites for this month (sorry its a bit short!) Let me know what you've been loving in the comments below!

Talking to myself: Inspirations

22/9/2014

Hi everyone!

I have decided to add another "talking to myself" post since my last one was about my GCSEs which seems forever ago now! I have been thinking about this post for a while and never really knew where to go with it, but I thought "well everyone must have an inspiration in their lives" so I might as well share mine with you all!

I believe everyone looks up to a number of different people to help them achieve their goals or different obstacles in life! So this is one of the reasons that the next talking to myself would be about people who have encouraged me to try and achieve multiple goals in my life!

Of course, most peoples parents have been a big part of their lives and granted mine have too. They have supported me 100%  through whatever wild things I want to do throughout my life. But I seriously can't put down to words on a blog page to begin to tell you how much they mean to me in my life (you would be reading for a LONG time!) I love them to bits and they will definitely be a huge part of my life and inspirations. But I have narrowed it down to 3 well known people in the world who I may have never been able to meet, but can watch them behind the screen!

1. Fearne Cotton

Picture
I remember when I was growing up, I always used to see Fearne Cotton on TV shows day in, day out. There was a show me and my brother used to watch called "Fearne and Reggie - Only in America" and they travelled around the USA going to these different places and we used to love it! Over the years she has made herself by doing multiple presenting jobs such as television and my favourite: presenting on Radio 1. Also, she has made herself into a successful fashion designer over the years! She has been the reason why I wanted to get into different aspects of media and I want to be known just like her, but not be watched under the eye of the gossip magazines everyday! It does sound weird, but I truly know and believe that she has been the main reason for me beginning to come out of my shell and try different things (i.e starting this blog and now I love doing it!)

2. Eric Morecambe

Picture
Ah yes. Another mention of an old 70s comedian that hardly anyone in my generation likes! But discovering them back in 2010 at Christmas, I've learnt from him not to take everyone and everything so seriously. It's okay to have a laugh and make a fool of yourself, why would you want to be remembered as someone who was boring?

3. Justine Ezarik

Picture
So cliché for me to post about a YouTuber on my site, but Justine Ezarik (known as iJustine) has been a big part of my life on the internet. 5 years ago, I discovered YouTube and she was the first person I ever watched and still is subscribed to this day. She is a vlogger for all things technology and has achieved so many things since I've been subscribed to her. For example: she hosts live events around the world, noticed largely by many people and she's even got to experience what its like in space (zero gravity and all!) Ever since watching her back in 2009, I've looked up to her and its amazing how far she has come online and I hope to someday be as just as big as her!

So those are my top 3 inspirations and they are the people I try and aim to do as well as they have in life! What I want to know is who are your inspirations in life? Let me know in the comments!

See you in the next blog post,

P.S like the new layout? I can't make up my mind at the moment! I think this theme has a lot of colour making it look more bright. Who knows it will probably change next week haha. xo

15 facts about me

Hi everyone!

This week it will mark 6 months of this site being around! I can't believe half a year has gone so quickly and looking back on my old posts I feel I have improved a lot since then, but I do feel I have a lot more to learn! I thought I would answer a few random questions that I've pulled together to let you know a little bit more about me!

1.  What is your middle name?

Well, if you can't guess by the HTML of this page, it's Lauren. I love it! I used to want to change my name to Lauren (since I hated the name Grace) but as I've got older, I've seemed to have grown to it.

2. What were your favourite subjects at school?

In middle school, it was art. But when discovering I can't draw to save my life, it changed in high school to Business & now that I look back, I did enjoy Design and Technology!

3. Favourite drink?

Hands down a strawberries and cream cooler from Costa. Hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream coming in a close second.

4. Do you have a favourite song at the moment?

Of course!! I absolutely LOVE Tides by Jack & Jack. A good song if you're feeling down in the dumps!

5. What's your favourite book of all time?

I've probably said this before, but a book that has stuck as my favourite as of this year has got to be Everyday by David Levithan.

6. Favourite colour?

Pastel purple (I guess thats lilac...)

7. Any pets?

As an animal lover, of course I have pets. My first being my gorgeous cat Domino (8), my first dog Dillon (jack russell, 7) and currently 3 fish (one being called Tupac.)

8. Best holiday?

Tough one. They're both in the same slice of the world though! Florida, especially at the age when I went and of course Canada, beautiful!

9. Do you speak any other language?

I would love to say yes, but I guess I can only speak a smidge of French... I wasn't very good at it (stupid tenses!)

10. Do you have any other siblings?

Yep, an older brother called Josh.

11. Favourite shop?

This ones a toughie, either Superdrug or Boots. I'm a sucker for drugstores (have to buy lots of cosmetics!)

12. Favourite restaurant?

Wildwood in Cambridge. Italian will always be my favourite.

13. Favourite movie?

I'm drawn between two!! An old time classic is Some Like It Hot but for a new-ish film will have to be Stuck in Love (cute film!)

14. PC or Mac?

Hands down, Mac. Don't think I could go back to a PC!

15. How tall are you?

I'm never sure how tall I am, but I think I'm around 5"10... I think...

There you have it! A few more things you have learnt about me. I think I should do it in a years time to see how much things have changed and do a comparison! Hope you've enjoyed reading!

See you in the next blog post,

Grace x

New beginnings

Hi everyone!

Well looks like summer is now officially over, which makes me incredibly sad because it has gone far too quickly but it has actually been the best summer of my life! So much has gone on such as prom, my trip to Canada, receiving my results, parties, working and going out in the sunshine with all my friends.

Picture
But as we all know, once summer is gone we know that school starts again. I only feel as if its only just broken up?! It seems crazy that the next stepping stone in my life is literally now as you're reading this. This post will be live after my first day at college, which seems absolutely crazy to past me as I'm writing this! I think this is the main reason for me writing this post...

I feel as if a new school year means more to me than a new year would (does that make sense?) It means a fresh start for all of us for the next 9 months or so and I always feel I need to start them all happily and correctly! Writing this now, I'm already getting that nervous/excited feeling about going somewhere new and the opportunities the next several months are going to give me! I can't tell you how excited I am to study something that I truly love and have a passion for everyday!

But even though I am bubbling with excitement and curiosity, I am starting to see how real everything is coming to! At the start of summer I thought September was never coming and I wouldn't be starting college or anything like that. But now, since September is already here, I'm not going to see my close friends much longer since they're all off doing there own thing at different colleges! With that saying, I would like to wish my lovely group of friends the best of luck with their futures and I really hope we see each other often (yes, I know it never happens but we can hope!)

Picture
With that being said, September opens up the door for Autumn! Summer is my most favourite season, but Autumn is a close second. I can't wait for the red leaves, cool mornings, warm drinks... the list can go on!
Picture
I think I'm ready to welcome the new school year & Autumn with open arms, everything is changing (in some cases good, others not so much) but I think I can adapt to that easily! Have a wonderful September all!

See you in the next blog post,

My trip to: Canada

1/9/2014

Hi everyone!

As you know (due to my lack of posts a few weeks back) I have recently come home from my first solo trip to Canada to visit my family. I wanted to share with you all my experience out there along with what things we did etc. It will be a brief explanation as I don't think you want to read about 3 weeks of the trip in one post with extreme details! Enjoy reading.

Travel:

Picture
You have no idea how worried my mum was about travelling on a plane by myself for the first time! Admittedly, I was nervous too, what if I caught the wrong plane or if I missed my flight? Thoughts like this were running through my mind as I was going through Duty Free in Heathrow. Thankfully, I got on the right plane with no problems (all that worrying for nothing!) I love taking off in a plane and even coming down, but my worst little fear is turbulence when you're over mountains or the sea... worst thing ever! And thats what I had on the flight, so I wasn't fully happy about that! I rarely enjoy watching films on a plane, so I decided to read and sleep mostly. I started and finished Giovanna Fletcher's Billy and Me in that time (very good read.) Besides from the very bland plane food and lots of turbulence, the plane landed into Ottawa very smoothly and I was shocked at how much green I saw flying over most of Canada (so many trees!) Baggage did take a while since 2 flights were coming in as well as ours and I also got pulled into customs... as if I wasn't as nervous already! Don't worry, I wasn't carrying anything harmful (unless you count 2 packets of HobNobs being dangerous...)

Food:

I didn't think I was going to eat so much once I was out there, but lets put it this way: I sure ate more food than I would in a whole month. But was it worth it? YES! On my first night, my family took me to a restaurant that specialised in their ribs, they were so juicy and delicious and I must've been hungry, I was the first to finish them! I also had a lot of "firsts" with food out there. I got to try a chilli cheese dog, a pie from a pie iron, poutine, frozen yoghurt (definitely recommend raspberry and Oreos) and yes, I had a Tim Hortons. All were so delicious I would eat them at least once a day! Writing this is just making my mouth water! And one final first that I had whilst I was out there was peanut butter and jam (or jelly) sandwiches. How could I never come across this combination before?! It's now my number one snack.

Sites/views:

I was lucky enough to go and see different sites of Ontario whilst I was out in Canada. My first sightseeing was going around Ottawa city with my cousin and walking around Parliament buildings. It looked like a miniature version of the Houses of Parliament in the UK which was weird for me to see! I also went on a boat cruise called the Island Queen Cruise which went around lots of different island across this gigantic lake, which I thought was the sea at some points! As well as this, I went to a historical reenactment called Saint Marie. It was an old Indian site and it told us the story of when the French came along and tried to show them ways of Christianity and their way of life. I found it very interesting to see all these types of things that would've happened back then! We did a lot of hiking as well and saw some beautiful sites such as Morris Island, Balm and Killbear beach, Moon river and many other gigantic lakes!

Activities:

For the first time in my life, I went for a swim in a lake! This may not seem like a huge deal to you but I'm not a strong swimmer and I panic if I can't touch the bottom of the water. But once I was in, I didn't really want to get out! It was cold at first, but once you were in it was so refreshing. Also, we went to a water ski show in Bala. It was amazing! I thought water skiing would be simple, you know quite hard to do much on water... I was wrong! One of the most amazing thing they done was a 12 people pyramid, on water, on skis?! So much skill was in this show it was fantastic! And I went on a canoe trip up the river by the cottage we were staying at! I've never canoed so it didn't come naturally to me, but it was a lot of fun (even if my arm ached afterwards!)
Picture

And there you have a it, a brief post about my travels. I love Canada, I want to go out again and see and do even more (if thats possible!) It was an amazing experience to go and travel by myself and I feel like my confidence has boosted from it! Now where to next?

Thank you for reading, see you in the next blog post,

Grace x
