How to: maintain your coloured hair

10/7/2015

Hi everyone!

Finally, I'm slowly getting back into this whole blogging routine again (sort of!) And my most popular posts are always ones I base around hair - so hows about that for a comeback post?

Once again, I have finally had my ombre retouched for the summer and it is blonder and bolder than ever! I'm in love with it even more now and I definitely want to keep it as vibrant for as long as possible! I have tested this routine every other time I get my ombre re done and it seems to work really well for keeping the colour in for an extended amount of time. Recently, I know a few people have been switching their hair up lately (colour wise) and they look so wonderful, so I don't want them to lose the gorgeous colour(s) that they've dyed it. So i some ways this is like a little guide to what I use to keep in my colour, to see if it works for anyone else.

The products I use to keep in colour are both the VO5 Cherish My Colour shampoo and conditioner combo. I used these products both from the first time I had my hair done and I will now always always go back to these! They cost me something mad like £2.99 each from Savers (bargain!) What I love about this combo is that they're both light and don't weigh my hair down like the Dove intense range does. (If you want to know my hair wash routine, you can click that here!)

After washing my hair, I left it to dry in a towel for around 10 minutes. After taking it out I brush it out with a wide tooth comb and then use the VO5 Smoothly Does It on the ends of my hair. This acts as a moisturising heat protectant which prevents frizz and protects your hair meaning that colour stays in for longer too (plus it leaves your hair feeling incredibly soft!) This product is activated by heat so once you blow dry your hair, it begins to work! Optional step: a spray in heat protectant will also stop your hair looking limp and dull - not the best thing when you want it to look bright!

So if you want to keep you're freshly dyed hair in tip top condition then these are the products I recommend to use! (All these opinions are my own and have worked with bleached ends of hair.)

Soft overnight waves

Hi everyone!

Finally, another hair post for you all to try out! This is one that I came across this tutorial by accident in all honesty but I really like the outcome that these waves give me! So let's just hop into this tutorial so you can try it yourself!

(I would recommend that your hair is at least shoulder length so you can get similar results!)

What you'll need:

  • Damp hair
  • One hair tie
  • Salt spray (home made or store brought!)

Picture

How to do it:

Okay so the images I've put together are awful but I don't think it would be clear enough on its own! I'll go through a detail version for you.

So, I start off with towel dried hair so it's fairly damp, but it won't take forever to dry! After that, put your hair up ready for a high ponytail. After, begin to tie your hair as if you were going to put it in a ponytail but don't pull all the hair through to make the ponytail (does that make sense?)

Then you want to fold the hair on itself and then tie around that, and if you have long enough here you can fold it over once again and tie it. It should look layered up like the last image here.

Then you leave the bun in overnight and let it air dry. But if your hair is thick or you want time to go quicker, just blast the hairdryer on the bun - much simpler ;)

Where does the salt spray come into it? Well if your hair doesn't hold well with waves, just put some salt spray in damp/dry hair to add extra texture!

Then once dry you can take it out and get beautiful waves!

Hope you try this out (sorry if it doesn't make sense, I will probably add some more in depth pictures in the future!)

My Hair Wash routine

16/2/2015

Hi everyone!

Feels like I haven't done a hair tutorial in ages - and I've been meaning to do this post for a while but I haven't kept up with the same routine for a while - this is my current go to tips which I do when I wash my hair. I have been asked in the past what I do and this current routine has been my favourite so far. The tips that I've gathered together are all from different routines that I've tried out in the past! Lets get into it:

Picture
Currently, the shampoo and conditioner I'm using is the VO5 Revive Me Daily. The formula is specialised into re nourishing your hair from being dry and damaged. Shampoos & conditioners don't exactly get rid of your split ends or dry hair completely - but I have noticed a little difference in the ends of my hair, they've been less tangly and after first use you can feel the difference too!

Tip #1

Change up your shampoo and conditioner after you have finished the bottles! Your hair won't see the benefit from the shampoo and conditioner which they claim to give your hair. Also, its nice to try out different types of shampoos every few weeks, you can always go back to your favourite too!

Hairwash routine

Firstly, I like to make sure that my hairs combed out before getting it damp. I use either a paddle brush or a Tangle Teezer to do this. Then, I begin to get in the shower and start getting my hair wet.

Tip #2

Picture
If you're hair is just below you shoulders or longer - this is a great thing to do before you begin to wash your hair. Apply a small amount of conditioner to the ends of your hair and then proceed to wash it out. This just make the ends much easier to comb out afterwards!

Picture
After washing the first lot of conditioner out - I then just start shampooing. Theres no real special technique here - I just use a lot as I feel I have a lot of hair to wash! I don't rinse and repeat however, as using too much shampoo can stop your hair from growing - not great when you're wanting to grow it out!

Tip #3

Picture
I then start to put conditioner in the ends of my hair. You can use your fingers to put the conditioner through the ends thoroughly - but you can do one better and use a wide tooth comb/ shower comb to ensure all the conditioner gets through. I leave it in for 2 minutes - which is hard to do when you're showering!
Picture

Tip #4

The final thing I do is to turn the temperature down to cold and rinse the conditioner out. It isn' the nicest thing to do but it makes the conditioner grip onto my hair for longer giving it the softer feeling! And then I either let my hair air dry or blow dry it after.

And that's my overall hair routine for the shower! These are just tips that I've gathered together and it has really benefitted my hair overall! Let me known if you have any tips and...

Crimped hair with straighteners

Hi everyone!

Once again I have another hair tutorial for you all this week - I've been rediscovering hair tricks that I haven't used for a while & this weeks tutorial is one of the tricks I haven't used for a while but now its my go to thing to do!

Usually, I crimp my hair using Babyliss wave crimpers as I asked for them as a gift for my birthday, but before I received them I used to crimp my hair like this all the time! If you're a regular reader (thank you!) you'll know that I posted a overnight version to crimp your hair, which is all well and good, but some days we don't want to have to wash our hair to get the results quickly and easily. And not everyone has crimpers but heres the solution (lets get into it!):

Before you start:

Picture
Picture
Before you begin to crimp your hair, set your straighteners to a high heat. Mine awkwardly go in low, thin, medium, thick & maximum, so I normally go between thick and max. Ensure that all tangles are brushed out and spray your favourite heat protectant throughout your hair!

Picture
(I actually made a gif;))

So when your straighteners are heated up you're ready to begin crimping!

1) Start at the top of the section which you would like to crimp - larger sections make bigger waves and smaller sections make, well smaller ones!

2) Tilt your straighteners upwards and hold for around 3 - 7 seconds

3) Once you've held it for the selected amount of time, go down you hair by 2 inches or by the width of your straighteners and then clamp down and tilt the straighteners forwards (I've tried to show it in the clip above!)

4) Carry on down you hair and swap the direction after every clamp (upwards, downwards, upwards, downwards etcetc.)

Picture
And then you're finished and should get beautiful results! I can't believe I forgot about this method, its so quick and simple. Let me know in the comments if you try this and what results you got!

Hi everyone!

This week has gone so slow, and it feels like this post has been waiting years to be posted (which is a lie as I did it this week!) Firstly though, how do you like the new logos on the site? Did you notice the header of the site is now an image? Let me know in the comments what you think! So anyways, this weeks hair tutorial is now in my top three favourites and its done by using kitchen roll (or paper towels.) It's so so simple and the results are beautiful - so with that being said lets get into it!

Hi everyone!

Seems like ages since I've tried a hairstyle to do overnight! This one is a little bit different, and if you're going to do this hairstyle - I suggest you don't pull the twists too tight (for looser results!) So all you need to get ready is 3/4 dry hair and two hair bands. Lets begin!

The Inversion Method

24/10/2014

Hi everyone!

I've been asked in the past how I got my hair to grow so quickly in a matter of months. I discovered this thing called the inversion method which is supposedly meant to help your hair grow in a matter of days. I tried this method before I ombré'd my hair back in May and the method worked. Unfortunately, I deleted the before and after photos of my hair when doing the method for a week, but trust me it worked. However, for this weeks beauty post I will tell you what this method is and the results on my hair this time round!

What is the inversion method?

The inversion method is a massage that you do on your scalp. The aim of the method is to warm the root of the hair up making it grow a lot quicker than it would in a few weeks. There is no official way on what spots you have to massage, so I try and aim to massage around the whole area of my head.

How do I do it?

Firstly, tip your head upside down (I find it easier to sit on a bed or chair or something.) Set a timer up on your mobile for 2 minutes and this is how long you should massage your head for. In small circular motions massage areas around your scalp in the space of two minutes. To make it easier you can split the sections up to fit in the two minutes:
  • Left and right side of your head for 30 seconds
  • The crown section of your hair for 30 seconds
  • The front of your head for 30 seconds
  • And the back of your head for 30 seconds

For best results, do this ONCE a day every day for 5 - 7 days.

Warnings

  • You should only do this for 2 minutes ONCE a day. Exceeding the limit will not show any results and the hair will be reluctant to growing.
  • Only do this for 5 - 7 days. Again, if you exceed the limit the hair will stop growing and in worse case scenarios the hair can fall out!
  • Do this method once every couple of months. If you do it repeatedly every month, your hair will not grow since the roots will be used to your massaging it every month.

Results

Picture
As you can see from this image there wasn't a huge amount of hair growth after doing this inversion method for one week. However, I have noticed my hair is feeling a lot longer after doing it. Results will vary on different people, for example when I first done this my hair grew about an inch in a week! BUT, if you don't get the results you desired at the end of the week, wait 3 months or so until you do it again otherwise your hair won't grow and could possibly fall out!

I hope you enjoyed reading this, let me know if you try this out but please follow what I say as I'd want you to get the best results possible!

Beachy waves with no spray or heat

Hi everyone!

Yes I know I have already done a beach waves hair post before (which you can click here to see the other post) but you have to use the DIY spray to achieve the results. Also, the spray works best on day 2 hair and lets be honest, we don't want our freshly washed hair to contain lots of salt! I love the outcome of this overnight hairstyle, so I just had to share it with you all!

What you'll need:

  • freshly washed hair (damp)
  • wide tooth comb
  • two hair ties

Hi everyone!

This weeks hair tutorial is something I have been doing for a while and I do get a number of questions how I get this style. I thought it was something quite basic to do to your hair but it seemed that not many people know how to do their hair like this. So lets get into the tutorial!

Rag curls

29/8/2014

Hi everyone!

Ever heard of rag curls? They are a very old way to curl your hair, my great grandmother use to do this method and when my mum told me about it, I just had to try it out! Surprisingly, they are so comfy to sleep in and the results are super bouncy and curly. (Please excuse my faces throughout the steps! It was late, I was tired and was concentrating!)
Picture

To achieve the "rags" you can either use an old t shirt or a pillow case that has no longer use. They don'y have to be neat at all and aim for around 8 inch long strips so you're able to tie the ends together. Using fabric makes it easier for you to reuse if you want to re do the hairstyle! I cut loads out because I didn't know how many I would need, but when I finished wrapping all the hair on my head I threw away the rest!
